How Far Does Your Cat Travel?

Most experts agree keeping your cats indoors is best. But if they do roam around, this is good to know: A new study found most outdoor cats don't venture that far from home too often. They spend 79% of their time within about 150 feet of the front door.

The average cat in the study maxed out at about 1,200 feet from home. That's four football fields away, which is pretty far. But that number might be misleading.

A small percentage of the 100 cats they tracked threw the curve off by traveling a LOT farther away than the others. A few ended up more than a mile away, but they were the exception. In general, they say most cats stick pretty close to home.
