ABC has cancelled its freshman comedy The Mayor after just nine episodes, according to Deadline. A Modern Family rerun will air in place of the show, which was scheduled to return from its holiday break on Friday. The series debuted to strong reviews, but struggled to gain an audience. Fox will air an extended-length episode of its hit series Family Guy in the spring with limited commercial interruption, according to Variety. In the episode, titled “Send in Stewie, Please,” Stewie -- voiced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane -- "gets sent to the office of his school’s child psychologist, Dr. Cecil Pritchfield, voiced by Sir Ian McKellen, after pushing one of his classmates," according to the industry trade. Fox also set April 10 as the premiere date for its hit comedy New Girl's seventh and final season on Thursday, according to TV.com. The eight episode season will pick up three years after the last one ended, with happy couple Jess and Nick -- played by Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson -- returning from a whirlwind European book tour. Meanwhile, stay-at-home dad Schmidt and working mom Cece -- portrayed by Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone -- are raising their daughter, Ruth; and Winston and Aly -- played by Lamorne Morris and Nasim Pedrad -- are married and expecting a baby.
